Grand Opening of Otto’s Pub & Brewery Offers New Venue for Local Artists
First Exhibition Features Pastel Landscapes by Jennifer Shuey
Local artists are always searching for new venues to exhibit their work and share it with the public. They have now found a new champion in Roger Garthwaite, owner of Otto’s Pub & Brewery.
“With the design and renovation of our new space, we chose to carve out a new “Artists’ Alley” to feature the work of our talented community local artists,” explains Roger. “The first artist that we are showcasing is Jennifer Shuey.”
Jennifer is a pastel artist and also the Executive Director of ClearWater Conservancy. Otto’s and ClearWater have a long history of working together. The Otto’s Golf-Fest has raised over $168,000 in its seven year history to support the land and water conservation and restoration work of ClearWater Conservancy.
Jennifer’s art reflects her passion for the natural environment and her interest in inspiring more people to become aware of the beauty of creation that is all around us in central Pennsylvania. Her pastels mainly capture impressions of the mountains, fields, trees, and streams of our area, with a few scenes from her travels sprinkled in.
“I hope to touch people with my art in a way that moves them to take action,” says Jennifer. “We are blessed to live in such a beautiful place, but it is also fragile and needs to be treasured”. There are many groups working locally to protect these types of places and they would all welcome more support from the people who live here and love it.
In addition to her work with ClearWater Conservancy, Jennifer is also active in several local art groups, including the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, the Centre County Farmland Preservation Artists, and the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society. Her art may be viewed at http://jennifershueyart.247exhibits.com.
The exhibit of Jennifer’s work at Otto’s Pub & Brewery will run from their grand opening at their new location on November 1 through December 31. An artist’s reception will also be scheduled in the coming weeks. As of 11 am on November 1, Otto’s Pub & Brewery is now located at 2235 North Atherton Street, at the site of the former Quaker Steak & Lube. Visit Otto’s online at www.ottospubandbrewery.com.
